Dr. Alexa A. Alborzi is a speaker, teacher, author, community leader, humanitarian, and orthodontist. Since founding Alborzi Orthodontics in 1996, she has successfully enriched the lives of many, not only in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, but nationwide.
Dr. Alborzi earned her BA. degree in Biochemistry from University of California, Berkeley and her dental degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She continued an additional 3 years of training and earned her Orthodontics Certificate and Master’s Degree in Dental Sciences at the University of Connecticut, one of the top Orthodontic programs in the US.
As a respected professor of Orthodontics, she spent 14 years instructing graduate students at University of California San Francisco, School of Dentistry. She is the author of the book “A Healthy Happy Smile, 8 Reasons to Straighten Your Teeth.” Additionally, she co-authored the book “Your Smile, Your Health, Your Success.”
Dr. Alborzi doesn’t rest easy, though: she is constantly striving to learn new things and embrace new orthodontic technologies. To keep with her vision of excellence, she spends many hours each year in continuing education. As a result, patients experience better treatment outcomes, in less time and with more comfort. Dr. Alborzi is known to tackle some of the most difficult cases in orthodontics, not only with a high degree of success, but also with pain-free, comfortable techniques.
She is an avid supporter of many local community programs because she loves to help and give back. Smiles Change Lives and Sonrisas Community clinic patients have been recipients of her help so that the less fortunate can also smile for success in life. It’s not unusual to see her volunteering tens of hours each week to a needy cause!

Braces are an excellent choice for correcting complex tooth issues in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, and have come a long way in recent years to be more comfortable and efficient than ever before.
Alborzi Orthodontics offers Damon Self-Ligating Braces, which are even smaller, more comfortable, and more efficient than traditional braces.
Since they can sometimes work faster at aligning teeth and closing gaps than other treatments might, your overall treatment time in braces may be slightly reduced. Braces don’t require some of the more complex technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, meaning San Mateo and Half Moon Bay braces are a cost-effective orthodontic option.
Traditional metal braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. They’re made out of metal or ceramic brackets that are affixed to the teeth, then connected by wires. Invisalign is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, and is our top alternative to traditional braces. Instead of brackets and bands, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth.
Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and customized to fit snugly over your teeth. To keep your teeth moving in the direction you want them to, you’ll need to switch your invisible trays out for the next one in the series every 1-2 weeks as directed by Dr. Alborzi.
The Invisalign system can only work if the recommended guidelines are followed exactly! Aligners should be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment. If patients neglect to wear the aligners as directed, it can impede the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.
